She and fellow Teacher of the Year, Laura Griffin of Ivey Ranch Elementary School, will represent the district at the County Office of Education’s annual Salute to Teachers in October. The entire Mission community is so proud of Mrs. Miller and this award she so highly deserves! Pictured: Superintendent Larry Perondi and Mrs. Miller. Mission School Modernization PlansAs many of you are probably aware, Mission Elementary is scheduled to be modernized under Proposition H of our bond program. The year this will occur is dependent upon when the funds will be available which could be as early as next school year, 2012-13. While it is still too early to know when the funds will be available to begin, I want us all to be prepared as soon as we receive the official confirmation. I am so excited that we are next in line for modernization. This $15.5 million dollar project will provide a new school with state-of-the-art classrooms. Students will have access to new technology with optimal learning environments. The campus will be safe with improved parking and traffic flow, and it will reflect the pride we all have in our community school. In planning for next year, I want parents to be aware of the school modernization project so that they will have time to make necessary plans. Most importantly I want to say that it is my hope that all Mission students will remain with our school when we relocate to the Pacifica School Site at 4991 Macario Drive during construction. We genuinely want our students to stay with their teachers and their friends so that they will be able to benefit from the special programs and instruction we provide. We realize that anytime there is a change it can be stressful, but keeping our students together during our move is much less stressful than if your student attends a different school with all new teachers, students and programs. The staff at Mission understands our students’ needs and works closely with families to make sure every child learns in a healthy, safe, and effective educational environment. When we begin the construction process, the district will provide bussing directly from your neighborhood to the temporary school and back home again. When the construction dates are confirmed I will announce dates for parent meetings so that we can share the many details about our move and allow you to ask any questions you may have. If everything goes according to plan, the construction will be completed in one year. This means that if construction begins during the 2012-13 school year, we will likely return to our brand new school for the 2013-2014 school year. Again, as soon as we receive official confirmation, you will receive a notice to attend a parent information meeting. I look forward to showing you the plans for our new school and making this a smooth transition during the construction phase.Sincerely, Todd McAteer, Principal Promoting Achievement and Student Success (PASS Program)
